France: In December, 2015, the United States Supreme Court granted certiorari and then reversed, vacated and remanded the Seventh Circuit's decision to affirm the lower court's garnishment order. On appeal to the Supreme Court, the government confessed that it had erred both at the district and appelate level and that it should have lost! Kenneth M. A well known Chicago law firm, Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit, P.C. agreed to settle class action lawsuits alleging that it had violated consumers' rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Under the Consumer Credit Protection Act, a maximum of 25 percent of of earnings can only be garnished. France v. United States.
